The story is set in australia, the main characters are Tracey and Mandy they started writing to each other when one of them posted a pen pal ad. they are both around fifteen years old and they both have a sister and a brother but mandy doesnt like her brother and tracey gets along with everyone in her family. Mandy has a dog without a name and tracy has two dogs, a horse and a cat.

Mandy dosent like her brother he hits her and is violent and their parents ignore it, but Tracey has a great relationship with her brother and her parents even tough they work a lot. Tracey dont want to hear about Mandys problems because it makes it to real and the letters get to sad according to her. I think they both reveal their true selves because they both seems to have normal lifes.

Mandy finds out that tracey has been lying a lot in her letters and when Tracey realises that Mandy found out about her lies she stops replying to her but Mandy keeps on sending letters. both their Nannas are dead and they both miss them, Mandys Nanna have been dead for 2 years and Tracey said she had wrote a great essay about her Nanna and she thinks its the best she has ever written.
I think the quete means live in the moment and dont worry about the future and i agree with it for most parts.
